Clinical Terminology MappingThis project provided terminology matching / mapping services in support of the IPO. We performed 10,000 matchings for the IPO maintenance and over 6000 mappings for the IPO Group 3 domain. We also provided quality assurance for the matching to ensure accuracy of the terms, concepts and synonyms. We employ very specialized teams of experts in both the various clinical domains and Medical Informatics.
The primary purpose of these efforts is match local codes to internationally standardized codes for clinical data in order to: a) enable interoperability among healthcare software systems within and external to VA; and b) enable automation based on such data. Specifically, Clinical Decision Support (CDS) functions and alerts such as drug-allergy or drug-drug interactions can only be achieved by the use of standardized terminology.
